1912, Roosevelt's Campaign
In 1912 Gutzon Borglum joins in the reelection campaign efforts of Theodore Roosevelt, demonstrating his respect and admiration for the man who would one day be the fourth and most modern of the presidents featured on Mount Rushmore. This interest in politics was not limited to a single instance, either. Woodrow Wilson appointed Borglum to investigate the aircraft manufacturing industry. Borglum discovered standards and practices in disarray within that industry. It was his report that prompted President Wilson to appoint Chief Justice Hughes to investigate the matter further.
