Also in 2008, Gerard Baker held the first Native American Tribal Elders council in the Visitor Center at Mount Rushmore, for the purposes of beginning a dialogue on how to balance the representation of history within the park, and to address Native concerns. While there is still a long road to travel toward reconciliation and a large amount of education necessary for both the Native Cultures and the Anglo-American culture, there is hope for the future as the dialogue of compromise begins at last.
