Gerard Baker: Current Park Superintendent, 3

itself, Baker has the support of the National Park Service, who are now actively trying to expand the number of perspectives and stories shared and maintained at parks all around the Nation.

The point that Gerard Baker is trying to make is not to demonize the Anglo-American contributions or interpretations to Mount Rushmore, but instead to present a more balanced view which will challenge and broaden horizons of thinking. Says Baker, "I want people to leave this park with more questions than answers." In response to criticism from South Dakotans about the changes he is making at the park, Gerard Baker says, "I invite them to take their blinders off and look at the full history of this place.” (www.rapidcityjournal.com) Perhaps it is an invitation which should be taken advantage of by us all.
